Bingo is undoubtedly one of the most widely played games, with millions of people enjoying it worldwide. It originated in 16th century Italy, where it was played as a form of lottery. The game became popular in France, the UK, and other parts of Europe during the 18th century. In the US, it took off in 1929.
Each player in a game of bingo has a gridded card with unique numbers on it. The “caller” shouts out random numbers, selected by a machine or drawn using balls. The players mark their cards with the called-out numbers, and if they complete a line or other winning sequences, they shout out “bingo” to claim a prize.
